On average Namibia enjoys around 300 days of sunshine a year. During summer temperatures can exceed 30° so the coast is the more popular destination in the summer months. The cooler winter months are the best time to visit the interior.
All visitors to the country need a passport valid for at least 6 months after the intended date of departure.
There are direct flights from Frankfurt to Windhoek several times a week, the flight takes about 10 hours. It is also possible to fly via Johannesburg or Cape Town. Time difference : summer time is GMT + 2 hours (April to September) and winter time is GMT + 1 hour (April to September).
There are no vaccinations required for entering Namibia. Yellow fever is not a risk here and the certificate is only required if you are traveling from an infected area.
The national currency is the Namibian Dollar but as the N$ is pegged to the South African Rand, the ZAR is also an accepted currency in Namibia.
In Namibia harmony prevails even if there are at least 11 major ethnic groupings and an even greater variety of languages. It is a very young nation as its independence dates from 1990.
The official language is English although over 100 000 Namibians speak Afrikaans as their first language. German is also still spoken in the cities. The largest linguistic dialect is Ovambo. From the beginning residents of Namibia had to be multilingual and as such those who live in Namibia can make themselves understood in 2 or 3 languages.
Namibia is known for its extraordinary landscape, it is a desert land of extremes. Although it does not have a safari heritage like other African countries, it is unique because of the fact that animals are not restricted to the national parks but can be seen roaming around freely.
